Car accidents: 1 dead, 1 accused of drunk driving in recent crash

Drunk driving remains one of the leading causes of serious collisions, and those who operate a vehicle while impaired place the well-being of everyone nearby at risk in the process. Car accidents involving intoxicated drivers have been the cause of far too many untimely deaths, and similar incidents could leave surviving loved ones in search of answers. A recent accident in Tennessee has reportedly claimed the life of a 54-year-old man.

Law enforcement agents advised that the collision took place just before 6 a.m. on a recent Tuesday. According to initial investigations, a driver lost control of his car and struck a nearby curb before entering the opposite lane and hitting another vehicle head-on. The driver of the second vehicle was reportedly rushed to a medical facility for treatment soon thereafter, but was pronounced dead later on.

While speaking to the driver who caused the collision, police say they caught a strong scent of alcohol emanating from the man. They also advised that he admitted to drinking several shots of whiskey prior to getting behind the wheel. He was taken into custody shortly after the collision and is facing charges for drunk driving and operating a vehicle without a valid license.

Suffering a loss in car accidents involving drunk drivers is something no family should ever have to face. Families who endure such loss may wish to pursue accountability through the civil justice system, and they could choose to retain the services of an attorney for guidance throughout the process. An attorney can assist a client in Tennessee in seeking restitution through a wrongful death claim against the party deemed at fault.
