Family awarded $7 million judgment in medical malpractice claim

When it comes to a serious medical condition, a proper diagnosis is essential to starting a patient in Tennessee on the correct path of treatment. Any errors in diagnosing a condition can lead to improper care that may only cause a person's health to deteriorate, or in some cases, it may also lead to new medical concerns. A family has recently been awarded a substantial judgment in a medical malpractice lawsuit after an incorrect diagnosis caused a woman to suffer permanent damage.

After becoming ill, the woman reportedly visited the facility in question for medical care. While at the facility, she was scheduled to undergo a variety of tests and scans, which eventually led medical professionals to diagnose her with a brain tumor. Upon reaching this diagnosis, doctors began administering steroids to treat the tumor. However, according to the lawsuit, their initial diagnosis was incorrect.

According to the lawsuit, the woman was not suffering from a brain tumor, but was instead suffering the effects of an infection. The steroids she was given only caused the infection to grow and spread into other parts of her brain. The lawsuit asserts that the error in diagnosis led to an improper course of care that ultimately caused her to suffer permanent brain damage and left her with no control over both her legs and one of her arms.

Errors in diagnosis are far too common, and such forms of negligence can have disastrous consequences. Those who suffer permanent harm under similar circumstances could consider consulting with an attorney for advice on the best course of action with which to proceed. An attorney can assist a client in Tennessee in pursuing the full amount of restitution deserved through a medical malpractice lawsuit against the party or parties deemed responsible.
